Knitting has many advantages for mental, cognitive, social health and more!

It’s been a minute since I have posted on my blog but when I set my intentions for the new year- consistent blogging is on the top of my list! I have always loved writing- so blogging makes sense!

I always knew that when I was knitting I felt calm and grounded. I also enjoyed the pure satisfaction of completing a project and being able to enjoy a homemade blanket! I never realized there were so many actual benefits to knitting but today we are going to dive in and explore all of them! I hope by the end of this post, you feel encouraged to sign up for a class and learn how to knit in the New Year!

Mental Health:

Knitting can help reduce stress, anxiety and depression. YES PLEASE! The repetitive motion of knitting can help focus the mind, which can slow the nervous system and reduce stress hormones. Knitting can also help people cope with mental and physical illness by releasing serotonin, a neurotransmitter that helps regulate mood, learning, sleep and pain perception.

Cognitive Health:

Knitting can help maintain cognitive function and brain health. Research suggests that craft activities help develop neural pathways in the brain.

Social Connection:

Knitting can be a social activity that brings people together! We always have so much fun at our classes! It is a skill that you can do by yourself or with a group of friends! I love swapping knitting ideas in my knitting communities and learning from each other.

Creative Expression:

Knitting can be a creative outlet that allows people to express themselves.

Fine motor skills:

Knitting can help improve fine motor skills and keep hands & fingers feeling good and limber.

Heart rate ❤️ & blood pressure:

Knitting can lower your heart rate and blood pressure.

Self- esteem:

Knitting can help build self-esteem by providing a way to feel productive and give to others. It always feel great to give the gift of a handmade blanket!

Practicality and sustainability:

Knitting embodies principles of practicality and sustainability.

So basically, I can’t think of a reason not to learn how to knit! Let’s chat and book a class for you and your friends! Email me at cozycarmel1002@gmail.com to chat dates, times and pricing or drop a note in the comments!

Stay cozy,

Stacey
